 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1168
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the Texas
 1-4     Department of Transportation in bidding farewell to
 1-5     Paul E. Northcutt, who is retiring after over a quarter century
 1-6     of dedicated service as a state employee; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Paul began his service with the Texas Highway
 1-8     Department as a landscape architect assistant on March 1, 1974,
 1-9     and he is retiring from the Texas Department of Transportation on
1-10     May 31, 2001; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A registered Landscape Architect, Paul has served
1-12     as the section director of the Vegetation Management Section
1-13     since 1993; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Paul has distinguished himself in the performance
1-15     of his duties; he played a key role in the establishment of the
1-16     TxDOT/TTI Hydraulics and Erosion Control Laboratory in 1989; the
1-17     facility, which is used nationwide to test and evaluate erosion
1-18     control materials, has received international recognition; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Respected by his colleagues at the Texas Department
1-20     of Transportation for his expertise in erosion control materials
1-21     and vegetation management, Paul received the Raymond E. Stotzer
1-22     Award for outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to the
1-23     department in 1996; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, After his retirement, Paul will serve as Executive
 2-2     Director of the National Roadside Vegetation Management Association;
 2-3     he will also spend more time with his wife, Bonnie, his two daughters,
 2-4     Kelly and Shelly, and his new granddaughter, Lydia Rene; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, A true professional and a cherished friend to many
 2-6     at the Texas Department of Transportation, Paul has rendered
 2-7     exceptional service to his state; for his many years of
 2-8     dedication to his job and the people of Texas, he is truly worthy
 2-9     of commendation; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Paul E. Northcutt on his
2-12     upcoming retirement from the Texas Department of Transportation
2-13     and wish him the best of luck in his retired life; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-15     as an expression of deepest gratitude from the Texas Senate for a
2-16     job well done.
