1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1177 1-3 WHEREAS, Coach Leon Spencer of Trinity Valley Community 1-4 College has won more games than any other head coach in the history 1-5 of Texas junior college basketball; and 1-6 WHEREAS, He attained this singular distinction on 1-7 January 17, 2001, when his Cardinals took a thrilling 72-70 home 1-8 court triumph over San Jacinto Junior College, giving Coach Spencer 1-9 his 744th career win; and 1-10 WHEREAS, During his 37-year tenure at Trinity Valley, 1-11 "Big Red" Spencer has led his teams to 13 conference championships 1-12 and numerous appearances in the NJCAA national tournament; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A recipient of many other well-deserved 1-14 accolades, he is an inductee of the National Junior College 1-15 Coaches Athletic Association Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame 1-16 and a recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Coaches Award by 1-17 Texas A&M--Commerce; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Coach Spencer's accomplishments are a source 1-19 of tremendous pride to the students and faculty at Trinity Valley 1-20 Community College, as well as his many supporters in the community, 2-1 and it is indeed appropriate that he receive special legislative 2-2 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 77th Legislature, hereby honor Coach Leon Spencer of Trinity Valley 2-5 Community College, the winningest junior college basketball coach 2-6 in the State of Texas, and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-7 continued success; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-9 prepared for Coach Spencer as an expression of high regard by the 2-10 Texas Senate. 2-11 Staples 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the above 2-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-16 on May 23, 2001. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Secretary of the Senate 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
