1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1182
 1-2           WHEREAS, Vernon Beasley, a tall, handsome young man
 1-3     from Hemphill, Texas, met Elizabeth Ross, a beautiful young
 1-4     lady from Alco, Louisiana, at Morningside Baptist Church in
 1-5     Shreveport, Louisiana, in February, 1948; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, He was immediately attracted to her, as she
 1-7     seemed less silly and more mature than most girls her age, and
 1-8     she found him to be very handsome, but thought he was the biggest
 1-9     smart alec she had ever met; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The young smart alec asked the beautiful young
1-11     lady to go out with him, but money was scarce, so most dates
1-12     consisted of getting together at the homes of friends or family
1-13     to make fudge, taffy, popcorn, or hot cocoa; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Using his East Texas charm, the tall, handsome
1-15     young man convinced the beautiful Louisiana girl to marry him,
1-16     and Vernon and Elizabeth Beasley were wed December 15, 1951,
1-17     in the same church where they had met two years earlier; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Beasley made their home in
1-19     Pasadena, Texas, and had four children:  Donald Beasley,
1-20     born October 25, 1952; Brenda Beasley, born February 19, 1954;
1-21     Barry Beasley, born February 16, 1957; and Helen Beasley, born
1-22     November 2, 1958; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Though they experienced many hard times trying
1-24     to make ends meet financially, Vernon and Elizabeth Beasley
 2-1     instilled in their children the traits of fine Texas citizens:  a
 2-2     love for God and country, respect for others, a solid work ethic,
 2-3     the highest integrity, and an honor for strong family bonds; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Vernon and Elizabeth Beasley retired to Lufkin
 2-5     in January, 1988, but stay extremely busy with gardening, making
 2-6     crafts, attending bluegrass festivals, and visiting their four
 2-7     children, eight grandchildren, and many other friends and family
 2-8     members; their happy marriage remains a source of joy and
 2-9     inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     77th Legislature, hereby join the children, grandchildren,
2-12     and many friends and loved ones of Vernon and Elizabeth Beasley
2-13     in congratulating them on their 50th wedding anniversary and
2-14     extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
2-15     be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-17     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Beasley as an expression of high regard
2-18     from the Texas Senate.
