1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1188 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-4 pleasure in recognizing Bob Baker, a gifted Texas musician 1-5 and the longtime pianist at the Old San Francisco Steak House 1-6 in San Antonio; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Bob began playing music early in life; at age 1-8 seven, he was playing the fiddle, and by age 15, he had learned 1-9 to play piano by ear; and 1-10 WHEREAS, While serving his country during World War II, 1-11 Bob played sing-along for troops being transported overseas; 1-12 upon returning home after the war, he attended North Texas 1-13 State University and went on tour with the "NTS Variety Troupe"; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, For over 50 years, Bob has entertained throughout 1-16 Texas and the Southwest; a versatile artist, he is comfortable 1-17 with several different styles, including honky-tonk, western, 1-18 sing-along, rock and roll, religious, ragtime, and boogie-woogie; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, During his music career, Bob has played with more 1-21 than 20 bands and recorded 10 albums; he currently records for 1-22 the Buffalo Bop record company in Hamburg, Germany, and has sold 2-1 almost 4,000 records in Europe; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A regular player on the San Antonio music scene 2-3 since 1964, Bob has endeared himself to music lovers throughout 2-4 the city; in addition to his recurring presence at the Old 2-5 San Francisco Steak House, he has played in many small clubs 2-6 throughout the city; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Bob Baker has spent his life sharing his gift for 2-8 music with others, and his affinity for those styles and sounds 2-9 that typified the old Southwest have helped preserve the musical 2-10 heritage of our state; Texas is truly fortunate to count this 2-11 talented gentleman as one of its citizens; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 77th Legislature, hereby recognize Bob Baker for his many years 2-14 of success as a musician in Texas and wish him best of luck in 2-15 his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-17 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-18 Madla 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the above 2-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-23 on May 24, 2001. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Member, Texas Senate
