1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1189 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 congratulate the academic team of Klein High School for winning 1-5 the championship in the University Interscholastic League Academic 1-6 Competition for the fourth consecutive year; and 1-7 WHEREAS, At the state meet, the school's team scored 135 1-8 points, a new record for a 5A school; this win is remarkable 1-9 because no team except Klein High School has ever won the 1-10 competition more than two times in a row; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The total number of schools in the 5A category is 1-12 250, making a group of at least 466,000 students from which to 1-13 select possible University Interscholastic League competitors; 1-14 the team from Klein was composed of 15 students out of 3,700 in 1-15 the school; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Students who participate in the meets spend many 1-17 long hours studying their subjects and the teachers who worked 1-18 with them are to be commended; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The Klein High School academic team worked especially 1-20 hard to excel in this year's competition because they wanted to 1-21 repeat last year's win; much of the credit goes to the sponsors 1-22 and coaches who worked so hard with the team; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The team's sponsors included teachers Laura Anglin, 2-1 Jerome Frnka, Beth Gilleland, Roberta Grenfell, Teri Hall, 2-2 Evelyn Kelley, Elaine Kisseberth, Carolyn Shadowens, and 2-3 Patsy Phelps, assistant principal and University Interscholastic 2-4 League coordinator; and 2-5 WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor for the State of Texas to 2-6 have its bright young citizens achieve this remarkable distinction; 2-7 the Texas Senate celebrates the success of the Klein High School 2-8 students; their exceptional intelligence will ensure them a 2-9 successful future; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby commend the team of Jessica Bolding, 2-12 Ryan Hennessay, Rabia Yousaf, Edwina Lai, Amaan Mazhar, 2-13 Kelley Rivoire, Brad Dodson, Carma Lords, Sara McClung, Tina Vo, 2-14 Alan Taylor, Tony Zhang, Justin Leong, Tony Strathman, and 2-15 Jeff Bame on winning the University Interscholastic League 2-16 Academic Championship; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-18 team as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. 2-19 Lindsay 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the above 2-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-24 on May 25, 2001. 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Secretary of the Senate 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Member, Texas Senate
