1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1191 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 1-4 to recognize Clint Formby and Margaret Clark Formby of Hereford 1-5 for the superb contributions they have made to Hereford and the 1-6 State of Texas; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Clint Formby was born in 1-8 McAdoo, Texas, on December 6, 1923; he received his bachelor 1-9 of arts degree from Texas Tech University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Formby served his country honorably during 1-11 World War II in the United States Army for 40 months, including 1-12 18 months in the European Theater; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Clint is the president of the Hereford 1-14 Cablevision Company and radio stations KPAN AM/FM in Hereford 1-15 and KTEM in Temple; he was recently named Chairman of the 1-16 National Advisory Board of the Ranching Heritage Association 1-17 at Texas Tech University; and 1-18 WHEREAS, For 12 years, Clint Formby served as member and 1-19 chairman of the Board of Regents of Texas Tech University and the 1-20 Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and he is a member 1-21 of the nine-person Telecommunication Infrastructure Fund Board 2-1 for Texas; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Formby is the only Texas Tech University 2-3 graduate to serve as chairman of the Texas Tech Board of Regents, 2-4 president of the Texas Tech University Ex Students Association, 2-5 and president of the Texas Tech University Student Association; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The winner of many honors and awards, Mr. Formby 2-7 was selected Texas Broadcaster of the Year in 1994 by the Texas 2-8 Association of Broadcasters, chosen Panhandle Citizen of the Year 2-9 by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, picked to be a member of the 2-10 Texas Tech Mass Communications Hall of Fame, and named Hereford 2-11 Citizen of the Year; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Clint Formby married Margaret Clark Formby, and 2-13 their marriage was blessed with four children: Chip, Brenda, 2-14 Marshall, and Scott; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Margaret Clark Formby attended Texas Tech University 2-16 and was named Miss Texas Tech, elected to the office of student 2-17 body secretary for two years, and graduated with a bachelor of 2-18 arts degree in 1950; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Chosen in 1977 to serve on the Select Committee 2-20 on Child Pornography, Margaret Formby was also selected to help 2-21 on the State Select Committee on Teenage Pregnancy and make a 2-22 report to the 1983 legislature on answers to the problem; and 2-23 WHEREAS, In 1986-1987, Mrs. Formby was the first President of 3-1 the Friends of the Library and Southwest Collection at Texas Tech 3-2 University; she has also been active in the development of the 3-3 annual Cowboy Symposium in Lubbock sponsored by the Ranching 3-4 Heritage Center; and 3-5 WHEREAS, A woman with many talents, Mrs. Formby was the 3-6 first woman to be inducted into the Texas Tech Rodeo Hall of Fame 3-7 in 1993, was instrumental in relocating the National Cowgirl Hall 3-8 of Fame to Fort Worth in 1994, and was named a Woman of Distinction 3-9 in the Panhandle of Texas by the Texas Council of Girl Scouts in 3-10 1997; and 3-11 WHEREAS, Always generous with her time and energy, 3-12 Margaret Formby is a devout Christian who has been a faithful 3-13 member of the First Baptist Church and has served on the Pulpit 3-14 Committee, taught Sunday School for senior citizens, and taught 3-15 a Women's Bible Study Class; and 3-16 WHEREAS, The varied and worthwhile activities of this 3-17 highly respected couple have contributed greatly to the steady 3-18 progress of their town and state; the presence of citizens of their 3-19 caliber is vital to the healthy development of a civilized state 3-20 and country; certainly Mr. and Mrs. Formby are deserving of 3-21 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 3-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-23 77th Legislature, hereby commend Clint and Margaret Formby for 3-24 their substantial contributions to the welfare of their community; 4-1 and, be it further 4-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 4-3 them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. 4-4 Duncan 4-5 ______________________________________ 4-6 President of the Senate 4-7 I hereby certify that the above 4-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 4-9 on May 25, 2001. 4-10 ______________________________________ 4-11 Secretary of the Senate 4-12 ______________________________________ 4-13 Member, Texas Senate
