 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1204
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize the Texas City plant of Marathon Ashland Petroleum
 1-5     for its exemplary contributions to ensuring the health and
 1-6     safety of its employees, the surrounding communities, and our
 1-7     state's environment; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Winner of the 2000 Marathon Ashland Petroleum
 1-9     President's Award, the Texas City plant was presented with a
1-10     crystal trophy in recognition of its innovative and forward
1-11     thinking approaches to health, safety, environmental protection,
1-12     and business practices; and
1-13           WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this prestigious honor, the
1-14     employees presented the Texas City Independent School District
1-15     Foundation and the La Marque Independent School District with a
1-16     $5,000 donation to promote creative instructional approaches to
1-17     programs focusing on health, safety, and environmental issues; and
1-18           WHEREAS, In surpassing the minimum requirements for
1-19     consideration, the Texas City refinery outdistanced the competition
1-20     by implementing several company firsts including an integrated
1-21     emergency planning approach and continuing improvement goals
1-22     for employee, community, and environmental safety; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Other criteria components considered for the award
 2-1     were the Safety Performance Index, Community Outreach, Employee
 2-2     Participation, Waste Reduction, Tiered Auditing Programs, Wildlife
 2-3     Habitat, Behavior Based Performance, Pollution Prevention, and
 2-4     Contractor Safety; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The Texas City Marathon Ashland Petroleum plant
 2-6     is truly exemplary and is to be commended for its commitment to
 2-7     instituting proactive solutions which address the concerns of
 2-8     today and the future; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     77th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Texas City
2-11     plant of Marathon Ashland Petroleum for receiving the 2000 Marathon
2-12     President's Award; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-14     for the plant as a token of esteem and high regard from the
2-15     Texas Senate.
