 1-5                              Philip L. Jander
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes great pride in paying
 1-7     tribute to the memory of First Lieutenant Philip L. Jander of the
 1-8     United States Army Air Forces, who gave his life in service to this
 1-9     nation during World War II; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born in May, 1919, he was a student at
1-11     The University of Texas and joined the United States armed forces,
1-12     answering his country's call to arms as a member of the 33rd Bomber
1-13     Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Medium; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Although his imperfect vision kept
1-15     Lieutenant Jander from flying aircraft, he became a bombardier
1-16     and was decorated with the Air Medal and Purple Heart; tragically,
1-17     his plane was shot down over the Pacific, adding to the heavy toll
1-18     of heartbreaking loss endured by so many American families during
1-19     the course of the war; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The generation of Americans that fought during
 2-2     World War II preserved their nation's freedom for decades to come,
 2-3     and Lieutenant Jander is an inspirational example of the bravery
 2-4     and dedication to duty that were required to assure victory in that
 2-5     conflict; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
 2-8     First Lieutenant Philip L. Jander and honor his valiant
 2-9     military service during World War II.
