 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1223
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     recognize the Girl Scouts of the United States of America on
 1-5     the occasion of the organization's Gold Award ceremony at the
 1-6     Capitol on June 4, 2001, and to declare June 4 as Girl Scouts Day
 1-7     at the Capitol; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of the United States of America
 1-9     is comprised of over 2.6 million members and is recognized as
1-10     a first-rate organization that seeks to better the lives of
1-11     Americans and our nation's environment; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement
1-13     in Girl Scouting and symbolizes outstanding accomplishments in
1-14     the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and
1-15     personal development; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A Girl Scout Gold Award is given to girls in grades
1-17     nine through 12 who have fulfilled specific requirements; to
1-18     receive the award, a Girl Scout must have designed and implemented
1-19     a Girl Scout Gold Award project and earned the Senior Girl Scout
1-20     Challenge and Leadership Award, as well as the Career Exploration
1-21     pin; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Those Scouts who have earned Gold Awards and all
1-23     members of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America
 2-1     deserve recognition for their leadership in their peer groups
 2-2     and communities and their skills, talents, and hard work; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Girl Scouts
 2-6     of the United States of America on their many accomplishments
 2-7     and extend congratulations to those Girl Scouts who have earned
 2-8     Gold Awards; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
2-10     memento of Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol and as an expression
2-11     of esteem from the Texas Senate.
