 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1226
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join
 1-4     the members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart as they
 1-5     celebrate their 19th State Convention on June 1 and June 2, 2001,
 1-6     in the City of Waco; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Military Order of the Purple Heart of the
 1-8     United States of America, Incorporated, was chartered by Congress
 1-9     on August 26, 1958, as the only organization of combat-wounded
1-10     veterans; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The State of Texas is the residence of more than
1-12     10,000 veterans who have been decorated by presentation of the
1-13     Purple Heart medal; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Only those active duty military personnel who have
1-15     shed blood as a direct result of hostile action at the hands of
1-16     an enemy of the United States may be awarded the Purple Heart
1-17     medal; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The recipients of the Purple Heart from the
1-19     State of Texas are to be commended as they have elected to hold
1-20     their Department Convention in the City of Waco in the first year
 2-1     of the 21st Century; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-3     77th Legislature, hereby proclaim June 1, 2001, as Purple Heart
 2-4     Recognition Day in the State of Texas; and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-6     Robert W. "Doc" Cooper, Commander, Military Order of the Purple
 2-7     Heart, Department of Texas, as an expression of high regard from
 2-8     the Texas Senate.
