No. 1230 77R18057 MCK-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Texas, 77th 1-2 Legislature, Regular Session, 2001, That Senate Rule 12.03 be 1-3 suspended in part as provided by Senate Rule 12.08 to enable the 1-4 conference committee appointed to resolve the differences on House 1-5 Bill No. 2061, relating to establishing a historical representation 1-6 advisory committee, to consider and take action on the following 1-7 matters: 1-8 (1) Senate Rule 12.03(4) is suspended to permit the 1-9 committee to add Section 442.0087, Government Code, to read as 1-10 follows: 1-11 Sec. 442.0087. EQUITABLE REPRESENTATION IN MONUMENTS. (a) 1-12 In this section, "monument" has the meaning assigned by Section 1-13 443.015, as added by Chapter 1141, Acts of the 75th Legislature, 1-14 Regular Session, 1997. 1-15 (b) To ensure that the diverse history of Texas is 1-16 accurately represented on land owned by the state other than the 1-17 Capitol Complex, the Texas Historical Commission shall: 1-18 (1) collect information relating to each monument on 1-19 land owned by the state other than the Capitol Complex; and 1-20 (2) in cooperation with the chair of the history 1-21 department at Prairie View A&M University, at The University of 1-22 Texas at Austin, or at any other land grant university in the 1-23 state, as determined by the committee, ensure the: 1-24 (A) historical accuracy of the monuments; and 2-1 (B) equitable representation of all Texans, 2-2 including African slaves, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, 2-3 Native Americans, women in Texas history, and Texans exemplifying 2-4 rural heritage in monuments on land owned by the state other than 2-5 the Capitol Complex. 2-6 (c) The commission shall make the information collected 2-7 under this section available to the public. 2-8 Explanation: The added text is necessary to require the 2-9 Texas Historical Commission to ensure that an equitable 2-10 representation of all Texans is reflected in the monuments on state 2-11 property other than the capitol complex and to ensure that certain 2-12 information about the monuments is available to the public.
