 1-5                              George G. Edwards
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the death of a beloved
 1-8     citizen, George G. "Harry" Edwards, on December 30, 2000; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born March 15, 1919, in Port Isabel, Harry later
1-10     moved to Corpus Christi with his family; he worked for Braslau's
1-11     Furniture for 49 years; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Harry served his country faithfully during
1-13     World War II as a chief petty officer in the United States Navy;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, A beloved member of his community, Harry volunteered
1-16     for many worthy civic causes; he was a member of the Del Mar
1-17     Masonic Lodge 1350, Del Mar Order of Eastern Star 1127, American
1-18     Legion, Scottish Rite, and Shriners and a lifetime member of the
1-19     Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Harry will be fondly remembered as the owner of two
1-21     popular eateries, the Texas Deep Pit BBQ in Portland and Two
1-22     George's Restaurant in Corpus Christi; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A deeply spiritual person, Harry was a longtime
 2-2     member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista, which he also served
 2-3     as deacon; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Harry leaves his family and friends memories that
 2-5     they will always cherish; Harry was a man of wisdom, warmth, and
 2-6     generosity, and Texas is fortunate to have counted him among its
 2-7     citizens; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     77th Legislature, hereby extend deepest sympathy to the
2-10     members of the family of Harry Edwards:  his wife,
2-11     Rebecca Estrada Edwards; his children, Maxine Gonzales,
2-12     George H. Edwards, Cynthia Smith, and Sharon Cook; and his
2-13     nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15     his family as an expression of sincere condolences from the
2-16     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
2-17     do so in memory of Harry Edwards.
