1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1237 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Ronchester Manangan Santiago 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of 1-7 Kingsville and the entire state in mourning the tragic loss 1-8 of Ronchester Manangan Santiago, who was killed as a result 1-9 of a terrorist bombing attack on the USS Cole on 1-10 October 12, 2000; and 1-11 WHEREAS, This young man was born on February 10, 1978, in 1-12 San Diego, California; he was the son of Rogelio Santiago, Sr., 1-13 and Simeona Esther Manangan Santiago; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Kingsville, Ronchester 1-15 graduated in 1996 from high school before he joined the 1-16 United States Navy; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The brave young man played an important role 1-18 in defending his country on the high seas; his unselfish 1-19 sacrifice will always be remembered by a grateful nation; 1-20 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Volunteering his services to his country, the 2-2 exemplary seaman answered his country's call in its hour of 2-3 need, willingly and courageously exposing himself to danger; 2-4 and 2-5 WHEREAS, A man of great honor and integrity, Specialist 2-6 Third Class Santiago is truly a Texas hero who richly deserves 2-7 our country's highest tribute; and 2-8 WHEREAS, His splendid example of valor is a testimonial 2-9 to his family who instilled in their son the intrinsic value 2-10 of patriotism and high standards of personal conduct; now, 2-11 therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 77th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Mess Management 2-14 Specialist Third Class Ronchester Manangan Santiago and extend 2-15 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: his parents, 2-16 Rogelio Santiago, Sr., and Simeona Esther Manangan Santiago; 2-17 his brother, Rogelio Santiago, Jr.; his sisters, 2-18 Mary Ann Rosselle Nelson and Catherine Santiago; his maternal 2-19 grandmother, Eugenia Manangan; and his paternal grandfather, 2-20 Tiburcio Santiago; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-22 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 2-23 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 2-24 day, it do so in memory of Ronchester Manangan Santiago. 3-1 Truan 3-2 Armbrister Gallegos Ogden 3-3 Barrientos Harris Shapiro 3-4 Bernsen Haywood Shapleigh 3-5 Bivins Jackson Sibley 3-6 Brown Lindsay Staples 3-7 Cain Lucio Van de Putte 3-8 Carona Madla Wentworth 3-9 Duncan Moncrief West 3-10 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 3-11 Fraser Zaffirini 3-12 Ratliff, President of the Senate 3-13 ______________________________________ 3-14 President of the Senate 3-15 I hereby certify that the above 3-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-17 on May 26, 2001, by a rising vote. 3-18 ______________________________________ 3-19 Secretary of the Senate 3-20 ______________________________________ 3-21 Dean of the Senate
