1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1240 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Herbert A. Train 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of 1-7 Corpus Christi and the State of Texas in mourning the loss 1-8 of Herbert A. Train, who died on January 1, 2001, at the age 1-9 of 89; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Born in New York City in 1911, Herbert Train 1-11 attended New York University; he met and married Anne Swift 1-12 in 1936; the couple soon moved to Corpus Christi, where they 1-13 resided for 64 years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Train founded the Swift-Train Company, which 1-15 processed loose or damaged cotton, in 1937; after the end of 1-16 World War II, operations were expanded to exporting cotton steel 1-17 ties to Mexico and used wire rope to the logging industry on the 1-18 West Coast; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Today the company and its affiliates are still in 1-20 operation and are actively in business; Mr. Train retired from 1-21 the everyday work of the companies, but he remained on the boards 2-1 of the businesses until his death; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Eager to return value to his community, 2-3 Herbert Train was an important participant in many groups; he 2-4 served on the boards of business-related organizations such as 2-5 the Regional Export Council and District Export Council and the 2-6 National Association of Wholesale Floorcovering Distributors and 2-7 was invited to be a participant in the 1984 White House Small 2-8 Business Conference; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Train donated much of his time to the boards 2-10 of Temple Beth Israel, the Young Men's Christian Association, and 2-11 the Community Concert; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Honored as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary 2-13 International, Herbert Train was co-chair during the first years 2-14 of the Combined Jewish Appeal, and he received the Temple Beth 2-15 El Distinguished Service award; and 2-16 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Mr. Train was respected for 2-17 his many accomplishments and was an elegant, dynamic, and visionary 2-18 man; he had a profound influence on all whose lives he touched; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Herbert Train was a devoted husband, father, 2-20 grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he leaves memories 2-21 which will be treasured always by his family and many friends; 2-22 now, therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-1 77th Legislature, hereby express deepest sympathy to the 3-2 family of Herbert A. Train: his wife, Anne; his sons, 3-3 Kenneth E. Train, L. A. Train, and Jeffrey Train; his seven 3-4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and, be it further 3-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-6 the members of his family as an expression of sincere condolences 3-7 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 3-8 it do so in memory of Herbert A.
