1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1272 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Walter E. Griffin 1-6 WHEREAS, Residents of Marble Falls recently lost a beloved 1-7 neighbor and friend with the passing of Walter E. "Dick" Griffin 1-8 on May 9, 2001, at the age of 86; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Griffin was born in Bivins 1-10 on December 22, 1914, and attended school in the small towns of 1-11 Trinidad and Handley; he attended the College of Marshall before 1-12 earning his bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons University and 1-13 graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and 1-14 WHEREAS, He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Army, 1-15 serving as a chaplain in World War II, the Korean War, and the 1-16 Vietnam War; he was the recipient of a Bronze Star with oak leaf 1-17 cluster and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Following his military career, he resumed preaching 1-19 in churches in Texas and retired after spending a number of years 1-20 at First Union Church of Buchanan Dam and a brief tenure as visiting 1-21 minister at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Austin; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin will long be remembered for his 2-1 inquisitive nature, quick wit, and strong faith, and while he will 2-2 be greatly missed, the legacy he leaves behind will not soon be 2-3 forgotten; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 77th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of 2-6 Walter E. "Dick" Griffin and extend sincere condolences to 2-7 the members of his family: his sister, Myrtis Gaines; his 2-8 brother, Bobby J. Griffin; his children, Richard C. Griffin, 2-9 Kenneth A. Griffin, and Janis K. West; his grandchildren, 2-10 Richard D. Griffin, Ross L. Griffin, Jenny Bergeron, 2-11 Rosalind L. Griffin, Travis Griffin, Madeline West, and 2-12 Dinah West; his great-grandchildren, Ian and Samantha Griffin; 2-13 and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-15 prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 2-16 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 2-17 day, it do so in memory of Walter E.
