LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 21, 2001 TO: Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB62 by Wolens (Relating to the authority of certain courts to try civil cases at institutions of higher education and other schools.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** It is anticipated that additional costs may be incurred by the state, private or independent institutions of higher education or public or private high schools for security, utilities, maintenance and any cost associated with relocating education services normally provided in the facility. To the extent that the bill does not compel school districts to allow trials to be conducted on high school campuses, districts would not be compelled to incur additional cost. However, because the bill provides that counties will not be responsible for any additional costs incurred due to the location of the trial, the state or private or independent institutions of higher education or public or private high schools allowing cases to be heard on campus would likely incur costs associated with the arrangement. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies: 701 Texas Education Agency LBB Staff: JK, TB, DC
