LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 2, 2001 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB75 by Garcia (Relating to public school campus report cards.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact School districts would likely incur additional costs associated with software modifications to accommodate the collection, maintenance and reporting of the additional data required by this bill. Costs for software modification are estimated to be about $2,000 per district on average or about $2,000,000 statewide. There may be minor administrative costs associated with collecting data on those additional indicators that are likely not collected currently by districts, including the percentage of students whose parent had personal contact with the student's teacher, the percentage of students whose parent responded to written or oral communication from school personnel, and the percentage of graduating students accepted by junior college or senior college or university. Including the additional indicators would lengthen the school report card. School districts pay the costs of printing these report cards, and the cost of additional pages is an estimated $.03 per page. Assuming the addition of two pages, the additional statewide cost to print a school report card for every student and his or her family would be approximately $240,000 statewide.
