Fiscal Analysis
The bill would require the Texas Board of Criminal Justice to sell to the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department the tract of land associated with
the Retrieve Unit in Brazoria County. The Parks and Wildlife Department
would be required to purchase the land at fair market value. Proceeds
from the sale would be provided to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice.
Methodology
Land associated with the Retrieve Unit totals 6,754 acres. The General
Land Office values the property, including buildings, at $85,500,000.
The Department of Criminal Justice and the Parks and Wildlife Department
have had previous discussions concerning the transfer of approximately
1,294 acres on the Retrieve Unit near Lake Jackson. The Parks and
Wildlife Department estimates the value of this tract of land at $3,500
per acre giving an estimated purchase price of $4,529,000.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
