LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 14, 2001 TO: Honorable Bob Turner, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB335 by West, George "Buddy" (relating to the Department of Public Safety Historical Museum and Research Center.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would establish the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Historical Museum and Research Center (HMRC) as a nonprofit organization. The bill would create the DPS HMRC Account outside of the state treasury. The bill would create a $1 voluntary fee that individuals could contribute to when applying for the issuance or renewal of a license. The voluntary fee is estimated to bring in approximately $311,000 each year. DPS estimates that the contract programming needed to account for the fee would be approximately $390,000 in fiscal year 2002. This fiscal note assumes that DPS would initially absorb the programming cost and through the authority to contract with HMRC as granted by the bill, be reimbursed for its programming costs. The bill would take effect September 1, 2001. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
