LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session
February 5, 2001
TO: Honorable Rene Oliveira, Chair, House Committee on Ways &
Means
FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE: HB573 by Green (Relating to the ad valorem taxation of
certain property owned by a municipality.), As Introduced
**************************************************************************
* No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. *
**************************************************************************
If the bill is passed and the constitutional amendment adopted, there
could some increase in property tax values and revenues for local
governments that elected to tax otherwise exempt public property used for
a public purpose. The bill would only authorize the taxation of real
property owned by a municipality if the property is located in a county
in which less than 20 percent of the territory of the municipality is
located. Due to this restriction, the impact would not be significant.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
