LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session February 5, 2001 TO: Honorable Rene Oliveira, Chair, House Committee on Ways & Means FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB573 by Green (Relating to the ad valorem taxation of certain property owned by a municipality.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** If the bill is passed and the constitutional amendment adopted, there could some increase in property tax values and revenues for local governments that elected to tax otherwise exempt public property used for a public purpose. The bill would only authorize the taxation of real property owned by a municipality if the property is located in a county in which less than 20 percent of the territory of the municipality is located. Due to this restriction, the impact would not be significant. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
