LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session May 10, 2001 TO: Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB715 by Oliveira (Relating to the composition of the 404th Judicial District.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The bill would add Willacy County to the composition of the 404th Judicial District. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2001. The 404th Judicial District is currently composed of Cameron County. It is the only single-county judicial district in the county. The other five judicial districts, the 103rd, the 107th, the 138th, the 197th, and the 357th, are composed of both Cameron and Willacy counties. According to the Willacy County Auditor, the county contributes $5,167 to the salary and benefits of each judge in its judicial districts. The rest of the judges' salaries are paid by the state and by Cameron County. The Auditor said the county would also contribute this amount for the judge's salary in the 404th Judicial District. The Cameron County Auditor says that this payment will reduce the amount that Cameron County currently pays for the judge's salary. Willacy County would incur a cost of $5,167 for each fiscal year. Cameron County would realize an equal reduction in costs. Source Agencies: 212 Office of Court Administration, 304 Comptroller of Public Accounts LBB Staff: JK, TB
