LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 18, 2001 TO: Honorable Juan Hinojosa, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB800 by Gallego (Relating to the rights of victims of crime, the payment of restitution to victims, and the training of certain persons who deal with victims.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would allow the Pardons and Paroles Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to waive a supervision fee or an administrative fee on an inmate during any period in which the inmate is required to pay victim restitution. The extent to which this option is exercised would have a negative impact on revenues to the State. For example, the Office of the Attorney General has estimated that if this option were exercised in all instances, the potential loss of revenue to the Compensation to Victims of Crime fund would equal $480,000 per year. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
