LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 13, 2001 TO: Honorable Toby Goodman, Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB920 by Goodman (relating to the adoption of the Uniform Parentage Act; providing penalties.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would require the Department of Health to: establish a registry of paternity; incorporate new information it receives from registrants; adopt a form for registering with the registry; mail notification of registration to a mother who has provided an address; notify registant if registration was not filed on time; and furnish a certificate of results when a seach of the registry is requested by an individual, a court, or an agency, as specified in the bill. According to the Department of Health, any administrative costs it may incur in implementing the provisions of the bill would be absorbed within the agency's existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
