LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 7, 2001 TO: Honorable Frank Madla, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1222 by Truitt (Relating to the sale of wine for off-premises consumption and to certain local option elections to permit those sales.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The bill would authorize an incorporated city or town that meets certain criteria and has a population of less than 35,000 that is located in two counties, both of which have a population between 400,000 and 1.75 million, and one of the counties contains a city or town with a population of 400,000 or more, to hold a local option election regarding the sale of wine for off-premise consumption only. An eligible city or town would incur the costs of the local option election. Based on a sampling of calendar year 2000 election per registered voter costs reported by the Secretary of State, the cost of the election would be approximately $0.91 per registered voter.
