The bill would amend Article 43.10, Code of Criminal Procedure, to allow
for the use of labor of inmates confined in county jail for works and
maintenance projects for nonprofit public service organizations
certified as eligible organizations by the commissioners court.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.

Costs to the county would be for staff to oversee inmates while they
conduct the works and maintenance projects. The number of inmates per
work assignment would determine how many county jail staff would be
required to oversee the work.
