LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 2, 2001 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1293 by Garcia (Relating to closing certain repeat low-performing schools.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact There have been only nine campuses rated low performing for three of the last five years. For school districts with such campuses, there may be significant administrative costs related to the campus closure provision of the bill, depending on the size of the district and number of campuses affected. However, these costs could be mitigated by the Commissioner of Education's power to grant permission for a school to remain open. Source Agencies: 701 Texas Education Agency LBB Staff: JK, CT, JM
