Local Government Impact
The bill would amend Section 607 of the Government Code to include
exposure to hazardous materials. TDH indicates that the bill could have
a negative fiscal impact on local governments that operate emergency
medical services firms because it creates an obligation on local
governments to reimburse the reasonable medical expenses of their
employees exposed to hazardous materials while on duty. The Workers
Compensation Commission indicates the bill may have an impact on
political subdivisions due to the cost of medical treatment for the
prevention of conditions caused by exposures to hazardous materials.
