LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session February 20, 2001 TO: Honorable Tom Ramsay, Chair, House Committee on County Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1511 by Williams (Relating to county authority to regulate the keeping of certain wild animals.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact Under current statute, counties are not authorized to prohibit or regulate the keeping of certain wild animals by exhibitors licensed under the Animal Welfare Act. The bill would remove that restriction and would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all members of both houses or on September 1, 2001. The Texas Association of Counties provided input for local fiscal impact. The counties could incur minimal costs to regulate and enforce statutes relating to keeping wild animals.
