The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment for the
offense of assault from a Class A misdemeanor to a felony of the third
degree if the defendant has been previously convicted of certain
offenses against a member of the defendant's family or household.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
