LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 8, 2001 TO: Honorable Bob Turner, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1563 by Smithee (Relating to the theft of motor fuel from a retail store; providing penalties.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would amend the Penal Code by creating the offense of theft of motor fuel from a retail store. The offense would be punishable as a Class C misdemeanor with a driver's license suspension taking place on subsequent offenses. A first time suspension would be for 6 months while subsequent suspensions would be for a period of one year. A fee for the restoration of a person's license would be $25, due at the expiration of the suspension period. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
