LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session May 10, 2001 TO: Honorable Kenneth Armbrister, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1585 by Gallego (Relating to the completion of a sentence in a felony after revocation of parole, mandatory supervision, or conditional pardon.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would amend the Government Code to allow certain nonviolent offenders to have a portion of their time served under parole supervision be credited toward sentence completion when being revoked to prison. Under current law, offenders revoked to prison lose all "outside" time served under parole supervision. The bill would decrease the demand for prison space and decrease the parole population under supervision, which would result in savings for state corrections. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies: 696 Texas Department of Criminal Justice LBB Staff: JK, JC, GG
