LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 2, 2001 TO: Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1632 by King, Phil (Relating to certain requirements in connection with suits for the termination of the parent-child relationship and the adoption of children.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** A finding of no significant fiscal impact is based upon the following assumptions by the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (PRS): (1) The bill would authorize PRS to be appointed by the court to conduct social studies in private suits for the termination of the parent-child relationship. PRS assumes infrequent appointments to conduct social studies in these cases. (2) The bill would provide that all suits for the termination of the parent-child relationship may be given preferential docket settings. PRS assumes that this change will not delay the setting of its caseload for hearing. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
