LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session
March 18, 2001
TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair, House Committee on Higher
Education
FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE: HB1672 by Green (Relating to the eligibility of
graduates of private high schools for higher education
TEXAS grants.), As Introduced
**************************************************************************
* No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. *
**************************************************************************
The bill allows graduates of unaccredited, private school to be eligible
for the TEXAS grant. Currently, such students must be graduates of
accredited private schools.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has not been unable
to obtain numbers for students who graduate from accredited vs.
non-accredited, private high schools. However, THECB estimates that
there are very few unaccredited, private high schools and the impact
would not be significant. THECB also assumes that the reference to
graduates of unaccredited high schools would not include home-schooled
students.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
