**************************************************************************
The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment for the
offense of driving while intoxicated from a Class B misdemeanor to a
Class A misdemeanor with a minimum term of confinement of 30 days if the
person was operating the motor vehicle in a school crossing zone.
Local Government Impact
Depending on the application of the bill, an increase in confining
misdemeanor offenders in county jails could result in increased costs to
local government; however, no significant fiscal implication to units of
local government is anticipated.
