LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session May 7, 2001 TO: Honorable Juan Hinojosa, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1698 by Morrison (Relating to the enhancement of penalties for certain intoxication offenses.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment for the offense of driving while intoxicated from a Class B misdemeanor to a Class A misdemeanor with a minimum term of confinement of 30 days if the person was operating the motor vehicle in a school crossing zone. Local Government Impact Depending on the application of the bill, an increase in confining misdemeanor offenders in county jails could result in increased costs to local government; however, no significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
