Local Government Impact
The bill would create a county court at law in Brown County. The court
would have concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in family law
and felony criminal cases. The new court would be created January 1, 2003
or on an earlier date determined with an order by the commissioners
court. Under current law, Brown County does not have a county court at
law.
The Brown County Auditor's Office provided cost estimates to the
Comptroller of Public Accounts for the new court. Salaries and benefits
are estimated to total $101,750. Other operating costs are estimated at
$36,050. The new court would be housed within the existing courthouse.
