The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment for the
offense of making a firearm accessible to a child from a Class C
misdemeanor to a state jail felony. If the child discharges the firearm
and causes death or serious bodily injury, the offense is currently
punishable as a Class A misdemeanor. In cases of death or serious
bodily injury the bill would enhance the punishment to a felony of the
third degree.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
