Bosse, Chair, House Committee on Civil Practices FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1986 by Dutton (Relating to compensation of a person wrongfully imprisoned.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to allow a person wrongfully imprisoned to collect all reasonable attorney's fees incurred by the claimant in connection with associated criminal proceedings and appeals, the claimant's discharge from imprisonment, and prosecuting the lawsuit under this chapter, in addition to the damages currently recoverable under the Code.
