LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 26, 2001 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2205 by Gutierrez (Relating to attendance at juvenile justice alternative education programs.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill requires some students to stay in juvenile justice alternative education programs (JJAEP's) until their 18th birthday. Currently some 17 year old students do attend JJAEP's. However, this bill would require additional 17 year old students to attend. This fiscal note assumes the number of JJAEP state-funded placement days would increase by 7,280 (80 students x 91 days average placement), for an estimated cost of $429,520 per year. However, because these placements are funded out of a set-aside within the Foundation School Program, there would be no fiscal impact to the General Revenue fund. Local Government Impact Counties that operate JJAEP's would experience higher costs from implementation of the bill. These costs would be offset by additional state funding as indicated above.
