LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 9, 2001 TO: Honorable Bob Turner, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2233 by King, Phil (Relating to abolishing the Polygraph Examiners Board and transferring the regulation of polygraph examinations from the Polygraph Examiners Board and the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas to the Texas Commission on Private Security.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would abolish the Polygraph Examiners Board (PEB) and transfer the regulation of polygraph Examinations to the Texas Commission on Private Security (TCPS) effective December 1, 2001. The bill would transfer PEB's appropriations to TCPS. The bill would take effect immediately upon a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house, otherwise the bill would take effect on September 1, 2001. There would be no savings during the 2002-03 biennium due to the transfer of appropriation from PEB to TCPS. In future years, it is estimated based on past expenditures that a savings of approximately $5,000 each year would occur due to the disappearance of travel costs for PEB board members. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
