LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 13, 2001 TO: Honorable Fred M. Bosse, Chair, House Committee on Civil Practices FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2301 by Craddick (Relating to the liability of a school district for bodily injury to or death of a student.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact School districts would be permitted but not required to purchase liability insurance to cover the injuries and deaths of students as described above. School districts purchasing such insurance would become liable for damage claims for such deaths and injuries only to the extent of purchased coverage. It is assumed that districts would carefully consider the ramifications of the limited liability imposed by this bill in deciding whether to purchase applicable liability insurance.
