LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 6, 2001 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2386 by Wilson (Relating to automatic admission to graduate or professional degree programs at institutions of higher education.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill grants automatic admission to graduate or professional degree programs to students who graduate from an institution with a bachelor's degree with a grade point average in the top 10% of their graduating class. No additional spaces would be added to these classes. If the number of applicants entitled to automatic admissions exceeds the number of spaces offered, a lottery would be held to determine who would be awarded the space. No changes are made in the number of persons selected for the programs of study. Only the selection criteria are to be changed. Institutions may realize additional administrative costs to implement the changes. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to general revenue is anticipated.
