Bosse, Chair, House Committee on Civil Practices FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2557 by Jones, Elizabeth (Relating to the payment of certain judgments.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to provide that a judgment debtor shall prepare a recordable release of the judgment except that if the judgment creditor refuses to accept payment, the clerk of the court shall issue a recordable release of judgment. If the judgment creditor refuses to execute a release the court may set the matter for hearing. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
