Fiscal Analysis
The bill would change the salary compensation of the Rains County
Attorney to that of a district attorney and would move the county
attorney under the Professional Prosecutors Act. The net fiscal impact
to the state would be $110,251 per year for the salary, benefits, and
office expense of the Rains County Attorney.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2001.
Methodology
The salary and benefits for district attorneys under the Professional
Prosecutors Act are $117,259. The state also pays $34,450 for office
expenses. The state currently pays a salary supplement of $24,408 for
the Rains County Attorney and $17,050 for office expenses.
Local Government Impact
The bill would remove the county's contribution for the office.
According to the Rains County Attorney, there would be a savings to the
county of $19,600 per year.
