LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 28, 2001 TO: Honorable Fred M. Bosse, Chair, House Committee on Civil Practices FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2664 by Grusendorf (Relating to the liability of public school employees and volunteers and certain independent contractors of public schools and to false statements against those persons; providing a criminal penalty.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact Under the provisions of the bill a student between the ages of 7 and 18 who provides a false statement against an educator may be removed to an alternative education program or expelled. The placement appears to be at the discretion of the district. There could be some additional costs for districts associated with expulsion hearings and appeals and any additional costs of serving the students in an AEP setting. It is expected that the number of these assignments will not be large enough to create significant additional costs. Source Agencies: 701 Texas Education Agency LBB Staff: JK, TB, RN
