LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session Revision 1 April 9, 2001 TO: Honorable Edmund Kuempel, Chair, House Committee on State Recreational Resources FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2719 by Noriega (Relating to the use of obsolete bridges, tunnels, and causeways to create artificial reefs.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to work with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and local governments to use obsolete bridges, tunnels and causeways to create artificial reefs for use as state parks. TxDOT is authorized to transfer these bridges, tunnels and causeways to the TPWD, which under the bill, is authorized to use the General Revenue-Dedicated Account No. 679 to create artificial reefs with the transferred bridges and tunnels. Funding to implement the provisions of this bill is expected to come from funds budgeted by TxDOT for demolishing obsolete bridges, and funds budgeted by TPWD for operating and maintaining artificial reefs.
