Local Government Impact

The bill would require authorities that would be implementing new voting
equipment technology to provide the technology proportionately and
equitably to all precincts in the authorities' affected area. If a
political subdivision were to implement new technology, the costs of
equipment would be affected by the number of precincts and the type of
equipment being implemented. The cost to units of local government is
anticipated to be significant if they choose to, or by virtue of any
other statutes are required to, replace existing voting equipment. The
cost would vary based on the type of equipment selected and the number
of precincts. For example, there is one type of electronic voting
equipment that costs $3,500 per machine.
