Fiscal Analysis
The bill would require that the Department of Public Safety (DPS)
establish and maintain a central index for information regarding threats
made against public servants. The bill would require that all criminal
justice agencies report these threats to DPS and to alert those being
threatened.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2001.
Methodology
DPS estimates that it would require 1,800 contract programming hours at
$100 per hour (total cost: $180,000) to create and implement this new
threat database.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
