LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 27, 2001 TO: Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair, House Committee on Judicial Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB3203 by Jones, Jesse (Relating to allowing counties to update addresses for potential jurors.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. The bill would require counties to update the names and addresses provided by the Department of Public Safety for their county with information from the United States Postal Service (USPS). If a jury summons is returned with a notification from USPS that there has been a change of address, the county or district clerk may change the jury wheel card for that person to reflect the new address. Travis County indicates the bill would result in a small savings to the county in postage by reducing the number of jury summons returns and subsequent remailings, and allow them to reconstitute their wheel less frequently, another savings. This estimate assumes that counties statewide would experience a similar small savings. Source Agencies: 212 Office of Court Administration LBB Staff: JK, TB, DW
