LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 4, 2001 TO: Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair, House Committee on Judicial Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB3498 by Thompson (Relating to improving the collection of costs, fees, and fines in criminal cases.), Committee Report 1st House, as amended ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would allow the Office of Court Administration to award grants to counties and municipalities each even numbered year beginning January 2002, for the purpose of preparing a plan to improve collection of court costs, fees, and fines imposed in criminal cases. The bill would allow the Office of Court Administration to require that counties and municipalities to reimburse the state for the costs of the additional collections as a condition of the grant. The bill would take effect September 1, 2001. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
