LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 6, 2001 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB3526 by Hochberg (Relating to the truth-in-taxation and budget adoption publication requirements for school districts with a July 1 - June 30 fiscal year.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill amends Section 44.004 of the Education Code, changing the date when the chief appraiser must certify an estimate of a school district's taxable value. The date would move up to June 7 from June 15. A school district with a fiscal year beginning July 1 would be authorized to use the June 7 estimate in setting its budget and proposed property tax rate, if the chief appraiser were unable to provide a certified appraisal roll by July 7. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. The bill would affect only the timing of required notices and hearings by school districts.
